What is Reiki?
Reiki's origins date back thousands of years, to the Tibetan culture.  The Reiki Usui System was developed in the 1800's by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese educator.  Reiki is a Japanese word, representing Universal Life Energy, which is the energy all around us.  Rei means God's Wisdom or Higher Power, Ki means the Life Force Energy.

Reiki is not a religion, but it encompasses all belief systems.  Reiki is used in many hospitals (1) and hospices in the US and other countries.  It compliments modern medicine.   Reiki easily works with other medical and / or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects, aid pain management and promote the body's healing process.

Scientists are running studies on Reiki and the relationship with the Human Energy Field(HEF), as well as the energy coming from other objects.

A Reiki treatment is usually between 45 minutes to 1 hour.  You are fully clothed, and can receive the Reiki session either while lying on a treatment table or sitting in a chair.  The treatment is gentle and can feel like a warm and calming energy flowing through and around you.  Shorter sessions are also available, after the initial treatment.  [Usually, one treatment is all that is needed for a mild condition.]  More treatments may be recommended, depending on your situation.  Some people enjoy having bi-monthly or monthly Reiki tune-ups.

Reiki Master Dawn Gold is an instrument for the Reiki energy, through either light touch or non-touch (Dawn holds her hands above your body, sometimes laying them on an area).  Dawn does not necessarily direct the Reiki energy, it will flow to the areas of the body where it is needed the most.  Although, Dawn's hands can be placed on or over a painful area, which can alleviate or even eliminate the pain during the session.  For 24-72 hours after the treatment, the Reiki healing energy will continuously flow throughout the your body. 

After a Reiki treatment you should increase your water intake and rest for 12-24 hours afterwards.  The extra hydration helps to flush the loosened toxins out of the body, and the rest encourages the body to start restoring its balance and energy.

What is a Reiki Master? A Reiki Master is a student of Reiki who has been certified to teach Reiki and attune their students to the Reiki energy.

 About Hawaii Reiki Master Dawn Gold

 Dawn Gold was born in Kingston, New York and raised in both California and Florida.  She has always had a scientific interest in life and a compassionate sensitivity to people, animals, and nature.  Ever since she was a young child, Dawn has believed that God  gave her the propensity to aid in healing and comforting others.  She has always had a genuine drive to help all living beings.  Prior to practicing Reiki, when helping others, she would either absorb their ailments and/or become completely drained.  Since being certified to use the Reiki energy flow, she is utilized as an instrument and can easily treat any patient without any adverse effects to her.

Dawn is a retired Navy veteran.  She worked as an aviation electronic technician and later became a Navy career counselor.  By becoming a career counselor, this started to fill that niche of her desire to help others.  During this time, she was also a coordinator and participator in numerous volunteering events.   Shortly after retiring, she worked at a health food store which was a wonderful change of pace and thought.

 The first Reiki experience that Dawn had was in the early part of 2000.  She wasn't really certain if she felt anything, but did feel more relaxed.  The next experience was provided by a friend, the following year, for a migraine.  She noticed a definite relief from the pain!  She started to believe that just maybe there was something to this healing art!

 In March, 2002, Dawn took Reiki level I class.  Many positive and subtle good life changes started to take place.  She became Reiki II certified in April 2003, and earned the Master/Teacher Reiki III level in November 2003.  She has treated over 200 people, including many hospice patients (which included Reiki support to the family during the  transition time period).  Dawn has also treated numerous animals including birds, cats, dogs, rabbits, horses, and cows.

 Dawn continues studying programs and techniques in the Health and Wellness field.  Her goal is to open a Healing Center, which will treat people from all economical backgrounds.  Dawn currently volunteers the Reiki services to both a nursing home and animal hospital.  Dawn is also an ordained interfaith minister.  Dawn has three children, two of whom are also Reiki level II certified, and has settled in Kaneohe, HI.
